You remember the sad case of the football player Michael Vick, right? The star athelete who was also breeding and fighting Pitbulls and you know what happened to him…but did you wonder what happened to all those dogs?
I sure did.I often thought of them and assumed the worst had happened-that they would be termed vicious and put to death. I just didn’t have any faith in our judicial system…but I should have known someone would do something… Valparaiso Law School professor Rebecca Huss was appointed by U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson to determine which shelters should get which dogs. There were many shelters applying to take them in. Rebecca Voss said:
“Best Friends Animal Society is accustomed to dealing with dogs who have special medical and behavioral needs,” Best Friends Animal Society is committed to providing what each of the dogs needs to be able to thrive in a sanctuary environment if it is necessary for a dog to remain in such an environment for life.”
So it was decided that BF would get 22 of the 47 surviving ‘Pits.
My mom works for them and just sent me an email letting me know that the pits were being prepared by a BF team for the long drive from Virginia to Utah.
BF had become ‘Pit central during and after Hurricane Katrina.
You can read the whole report on the BF
website
My dog Bozzio and I are very happy with the outcome of the fate of those dogs.At least I think he is happy-right now he is asleep.
Please consider giving BF a donation so that they can “keep up the good work”.
