Just finished the redesign of another website for a Brooklyn wine boutique called Gnarly Vines.
Problems!
We have to keep the shopping cart disabled until we can switch hosts, get a dedicated IP and an SSL certificate. The belief that we could have a new site plus a working shopping cart up and ready by today all came to a grinding halt on Friday when I learned that the host would not allow one essential PHP function and had not purchased and registered a secure certificate that I requested 2 weeks ago. He had encrypted the site to use the host domain SSL wildcard which causes all sorts of problems and is not a good option. It is much better to have an SSL for one’s domain. Also they don’t cost that much.
There was also the problem that the tech support was not familiar with PHP at all. The server was not set up to use mod_rewrite and even though mod_rewrite module was installed it did not work properly. I had to use a permalink that included index.php. So even though the server is Apache it functions as if it were IIS. I have only had one experience with IIS and it was not nice.
But on the bright side things look very nice.I just wish I could have met the deadline.
