Again with the Purehost bashing? But is it bashing if the horror keeps coming?
Ok, so if you do something mysterious with the IIS Administration console, something that causes your browser to say mean things like the server is redirecting in a way that can never complete, and you go back and set everything back to the way it was before you got all crazy and clicked the wrong thing…does it not stand to reason that the error would have been corrected in Purehost’s stated timeframe of 2 hours? How about 8 hours? What about 10?
No? What about after you waited on hold for 20 minutes to talk to tech support and the guy said it would likely be fixed in 2 hours? No, not even then? So you call back tech support after another nice long wait on hold but have to explain to them where the IIS Administration console even is because they don’t usually do anything with it because they’re used to Unix sanity. The guy can’t fix it and tries to suggest it’s my WordPress installation even though I told him thing didn’t act funky until I went into IIS.
I’m supposed to get a callback tomorrow about this mess because, you guessed it, they have no idea what is wrong and they can’t fix the darned thing, probably because they haven’t the 1st idea what went wrong.Really that IIS console has gotten me in such hot water. Why did I even touch it when clearly I had no idea what a bad thing could happen? Because I have always been able to fix my fumbles in the past. And obviously I had no idea it would have an outcome this dire.
The site in question has been off line since 5 o:clock yesterday afternoon. Sweet.
Well I’m done.Going to bed.

My New Years Eve Sucked
Some say that this will set the tone for the rest of my year…they’re superstitious types and probably tie little knots of string to ward off the evil eye or whatever.
So here is what happened. The day of I went to Daffy’s with a set budget of squat to get a dress.
I’d been to Daffy’s recently and tried on a bunch of clothes but was so unnerved by a cellphone fight with the mans during that visit that no amount of pretty dresses could make me feel better–so I left and bought nothing(even though one dress looked pretty good on me and was super cheap).
This visit I saw the same dress now marked down to a squat acceptable level of 13.98.13.98?! For a dress-a whole dress? That’s Daffy’s for you.I snapped it up with a pair of opaque black tights. Then I skipped to Gnarly Vines and picked up 3 bottles of Champagne…something told me the party we were going to that night would be insufficient of Champagne supplies…for me.I like to drink it as a cocktail not just as a toast so I knew I had to byob.
The PLAN:The mans would play drums all night.
I would sit and look peeved.
THE ACTUAL PARTY:
Oh.My.God.
We walked in to the long dark narrow room that was the party room. A band was playing at the back-which the bf immediately joined. There were a few guests but my days of parties in NY have taught me that these people WILL NOT talk to you and that you will HAVE NO DESIRE to talk to them. It was dudes and more dudes. Ok for me in my single days but goddamn can’t these men ever get dates? What’s wrong with them? Don’t they like sex?
We poured ourselves some drinks into plastic cups (of course) and I sat. I sat. I got up then I sat back down. This went on until I went to the the kitchen large enough to have a loveseat couch and I sat there. I ate Funions.Ohh Champagne and Funions, not a good idea. I remained seated there until 11:59 (the band almost played right through past the turn of the hour-the geeks). They broke off and everyone did a brief toast to recognize we were now in 2008 and A smooched me then they all scrammed back to their instruments to get back into the weird jam they’d been grinding out for the past2 hours. I don’t mean to sound unsupportive but obviously this party was a showcase for this band. It was not a
party for people to hang out and maybe talk to each other (people who knew each other of course).
The music was an unhappy mix of Klezmer and hippie jazz crap, if you know what I mean.
More people did begin to wander in and I was even less interested in talking to them as I was when I got there. I had words with the mans about maybe going to another party in Dumbo where there might be more for me to do than sit while looking awesome. He didn’t think it was important that we send the rest of the evening together (he actually said where is the rule that boyfriend and girlfriend have to spend NYE together? wow.). I gave him a whithering look and said that I was just going to go home. And so I did. For that I wore high heels?
And here is a news flash people:
IF you go to a New Year’s eve party bring some goshdarned Champagne, you cheap bastards!
If you throw a New Year’s eve party supply more than one goshdarned bottle of Champage for your guests to share at midnight!
Ye Gods,if I hadn’t brought 3 bottles myself there would have only been one bottle for about 40 people.
So back to my outfit, the only good thing about that night!
I wore a great black and white mini dress with big flouncy arms and black tights and high heels. Accessories were a coat of black faux shearling and my big red chunky necklace.
Here are the photos, the black dress is the one I was going to wear but the decollete is a bit low for me and would’ve been wasted on the numbskulls at the party, anyway.
Myrtle Ave Gets Better Every Day
Formerly nicknamed “Murder Ave” by local police, my main drag, Myrtle Avenue, is being gentrified before my eyes at a very fast pace. New restaurants have popped up in the last few months, new stores like Barking Brown and a high end salon called the Polish Bar(that’s polish as in nail polish not Polish as in keilbasa). The Polish Bar may have been the pioneer because it came a couple of years ago when all the other stores on the strip were suffice to say pretty less than appealling to me.And as much as I love pedicures I was really hoping the next new store wouldn’t be a hair salon or nail boutique. Wow, the women of Myrtle really care about their hair and nails-judging from the amount of such places on a relatively short block.
Like any “bad neighborhood” we had our share of liquor stores the focus being on hard liquor which was never my beverage of choice. I’m a wine and Champagne girl. So I was excited when I saw Gnarly Vines setting up shop sandwiched between a cheap home goods store and a ghetto laundromat. Awesome! Although at first I was cheesed that their hours were a mystery and the first few attempts to shop there were met with “ah, we’re closed” murmurs from the staff. Nevermind, the wait was worth it and the best thing is that the shop isn’t far away from my loft!
This wine shop actually employs people who know wine. I can’t get over it! The staff is helpful and knowledgeable and they let me bring in my dog! The owner Brian Robinson has a bowl of dog treats behind the reception/register desk and has already won Bozzio’s undying love for the rest of his life.
Through Gnarly I have discovered Ipsum a beautiful Spanish varietal that costs about 12 bucks.
They are also the only wine store close to me that stocks Pets Vinum,a red I got as a dinner party gift a couple of years ago and suffered from not being able to buy unless I wanted to trek to Red Hook for Nell’s or to Williamsburg for the Bottle Shoppe. Thanks but no thanks cool Brooklyn Bouroughs I will be going only to Gnarly for wine, a fast 10 minute walk from my block.
Weirdness after upgrading to v2.3.2
First it’s all probably my fault. But after I decided to do away with my hacked together root index.php and use the WP index.php, instead I’ve noticed some unwelcome changes to the admin and dashboard.
I’ll say it again:I probably did something wrong. But now when I upload an image to put in a post the send to editor button is gone.I also have to use my toolbar firefox extension for web developer to ‘view only this frame’ if I want to be able to copy the image url.
I can’t figure out what is causing my site to act schizo – it can’t find certain things anymore. It’s probably the .htaccess but that was automatically generated when I updated my permalinks.
Bleh…So now the way my install handles images is wonky.
Next is the incoming links that you see on your dashboard when you log in. I saw them once but now I don’t.Where did they go?
The 3rd thing is my plugin for stats. The plugin gives you a widget for the sidebar but you have to type in the url of the stats in the plugin options admin.I don’t want the stats page in my top navigation so I made it a subpage of a page I’m only likely to view.It might be this plus my permalinks structure causing trouble — the stats page is blank.
Another thing is no one seems to be going to my site at all.But that is normal.
