That’s what Best Friends looked like in the 80’s!
I’m super-excited to see this show because I grew up with the folks who created Best Friends Animal Sanctuary located in Kanab, Utah.
When I was about 13 they decided to buy what used to be known as the Kanab Canyon Movie Ranch and develop the property for residences. And as they were doing that they kept coming across stray dogs because I guess people from the surrounding area and townships would dump their unwanted dogs on the property. My ex-stepdad,Michael Mountain and my mom were vigilant animal rescuers for years and their friends were like minded individuals who never believed in kill shelters. It seemed to just happen that they would build a shelter for the dogs that just kept coming. And one for the cats who were also turning up at a fast rate– soon a section of the shelter was filled with cats and kittens.
Years later the organization has grown exponentially and is very well known. When I go back to Utah to visit my mom and we go visit Best Friends I am always surprised to see what a well run and professional organization it is. Because I remember when it was just a few raggedy runs for the dogs and a little shack for the cats.
The show premiered January 4, at 9 p.m.
The next one is tomorrow night and I ‘ve missed 3 episodes already!
It will be a treat to watch the show with Bozzio and Dakota, she’s coming over tomorrow just in time.Dakota has a bit of a problem with the peeing inside thing so I bought 2 more rolls of paper towels in her honor.

Project Runway & Make Me a Supermodel
Even though I enjoy Project Runway, I have some criticisms.
It’s a fashion show and fashion is Evil. Because it’s really fascism which is not good if you remember Hitler, who Vogue would probably employ.
2 episodes ago.
The prom dress episode: the designers had to make a prom dress and the models were 17 year old girls from NJ – they also were the clients and had a say in how their dress was designed.
Christian got the chubbiest girl and I knew he was going to be in trouble because fashion is about looks and that is why professional models are thin and beautiful.
The judges were not supposed to judge the outfit based on the model’s appearance but rather on how well it was executed and fit but how could the girl’s appearence not effect the outcome? The 2 top dresses picked by the judges were worn by the thinnest girls. The 2 bottom dresses were worn by the plainest girls. Kevin and Christian never had a chance with that challenge…
I give up on this show’s final outcome anyway. The fact that Victorya’s ridiculous blue thing won that challenge over Sweet Pea’s gorgeous silk gown means I can have no idea what will happen.
I am going to paste some pics here of the girls I’m talking about but I’m unsure of the bravotv.com policy on borrowing images so
so all photos shown here credit to bravotv.com/projectrunway.
Last episode
Last night’s episode was a little more successful – the designers were asked to make clothes inspired by stupid hairstyles. But the outcome was really quite spectacular and more along the reason I keep watching this show because lord knows I do not care if a dress can be made out of candy.
I love that this season is just about making clothes. No backstabbing. No machinations. No Machiavellian plots.
Make Me a Supermodel
It’s kind of surreal to watch the Bravo TV show like Make Me a Supermodel where very average looking people (the assistant judges) are judging extremely good looking men and women, nit-picking tiny flaws as if any of them could withstand such scrutiny. Tyson Beckford, apparently a spokesmodel for How to be Annoying all the Time,at least has a personality. Niki Taylor hasn’t got an edge like the fear inducing glitter-eyed Heidi Klum.
Falcons in Staten Island
I’m really enjoying the accounts of wild birds my dad has been writing in his blog
We don’t get much wildlife in Brooklyn, though once I did see a fat raccoon trucking under the BQE.It scaled a chain-link fence in 2 seconds and both Bozzio and I were quite amazed.Bozzio wasn’t at all sure it wasn’t a cat.But I knew. That was 2 years ago and the most excitement since has been spotting a black squirrel in Fort Greene Park.
Check out his blog and and maybe even buy a book. His blog does lean toward political views but his books do not.
Why do contributers to coder’s forums act so darn superior?
I don’t think all coders who contribute to forums on a regular basis & actually help people are all bad-it’s the ones who take that arch air with you as if their words were golden and if you dare to question their advice, or worse misunderstand, then you are a poop-head, and they have no qualms about telling you just that.
I will spend hours looking through Google searches before I get distraught enough to go to a forum for answers, because I don’t like they way people are treated in coder forums.
If you want to spend your valuable time helping people who are too stupid to figure it out for themselves, then that is your choice. But please note that not everyone speaks tech-and for the app/process/code in question there may be a 1000 technical terms for which they aren’t yet familiar.
